Ukrainian sculptor. Lived and worked in Kyiv. At the beginning of his career, Volodymyr was engaged in the sculptural design of historical and cultural monuments in Kyiv, Odesa and St. Petersburg. Since 1986 he has regularly participated in international and national sculpture symposia. He was a laureate of the All-Ukrainian Triennial of Sculpture. The works are stored in museums in Ukraine, Turkey, Canada, Germany, France, Japan, the USA, Slovakia, Russia, public space and private collections.
The sculpture is based on an ancient myth, which Volodymyr Protas reinterprets in the spirit of Franz Kafka. The object is a reflection on current geopolitical, climatic and postcultural crises. The sirens who failed to stop Odysseus’ team and were punished by the Muses for contempt are doomed to an irreversible fatal outcome. They embody a modern civilization that is heading into the abyss of global crisis, neglecting spiritual traditions, provoking man-made disasters, pandemics and wars.
